The purpose of this page is to not make Forensic P2P appear to be superior to
any of the popular file-sharing programs. We cannot make a comparison like that
between Forensic P2P and another file-sharing program such as Phex because the
programs were designed for two separate purposes and user bases.
Forensic P2P is very similar to traditional file-sharing programs like Phex and Limewire, but with a few exceptions. As noted on Forensic P2P's main page,
the key differences between Forensic P2P and programs like Bearshare and
Limeware include:
- Forensic P2P does not permit the uploading of files from your computer.
- Forensic P2P does not (of course) include any type of bundled advertising or spyware that these types of programs are often known for containing.
- Forensic P2P provides the ability to determine the Internet Service Provider (ISP) of a particular IP address (WHOIS).
- Forensic P2P can integrate with Forensic Database to identify shared contraband.
The table below provides a detailed look at the differences between Forensic P2P
and Phex. We only considered features that would most likely apply to P2P
investigations. (Note that this table is accurate at the time of writing.
